.1:18 1981 Camaro Z28 by Greenlight – Gold When Chevrolet first introduced the Camaro in 1967, it was already at a disadvantage against the Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger, and Plymouth Barracuda. It had to catch up in order to find its place in the “Pony Car” market. In order to get recognition, it had to compete head on with the other brands on the race track. The SCCA was the perfect place. One area was the small block class with engine displacement not to exceed 305 cubic inches. Chevrolet produced the Z28 using a 327 block with a 283 crank that provided a convenient 302 cubic inches and marketed as a race ready performance package in the first generation from 1967 through 1969 and the second generation in 1970. With emission standards starting in 1971, the 302 gave way to the 350. Gone, as well, was the performance. With ever increasing emission restrictions, the Z28 was discontinued in 1974. But Chevrolet noticed how well the Pontiac Trans Am was selling and decided to put the Z28 back into production late in the 1977 model year as an appearance package with standard features aimed at personal comfort and convenience. While not a high performance car, it looked good and handled well. The second generation Camaro was built through 1981. The box is damaged (this is how we received them).
